WRUFC Vets vs Pilgrim Bandits Charity Rugby MatchPosted on Feb 09, 2016
On the 16th January, the Willenhall Rugby Club hosted a Super Saturday Charity event of the Pilgrim Bandits vs. Willenhall Vets.
This Rugby match featured ex-military personnel versus Willenhall Veterans, and has raised nearly £4,000 in benefit of the Pilgrim Bandits Charity. The game saw the Bandits finish on top with a final score of 38-18.
Former Paratrooper Dave Bentley, from the Staffordshire branch of the charity, said he was delighted by the support for the cause. “It was all for a great cause. The charity pushes the lads and ladies to get involved with the expeditions, parachuting and kayaking to give them more confidence. There was a team of soldiers from around the country – both former and still serving – taking on former players from Willenhall. Then after the game we had a raffle, a Barbeque and a prize auction. In the evening we all dressed as superheroes which were a bit of fun. Around 300 people turned up which was great – I was really chuffed.”
The Pilgrim Bandits Charity vs. Willenhall Vets match started at 12pm, followed by the 1st XV’s league encounter with Burntwood at 2.30pm. The Pilgrim Bandits Charity Patron Ben Parkinson MBE was guest of honour on the day and spectators had the chance to meet the superb individual. There was also a local band playing from 6pm and a host of prizes to be won in the raffles and the auction that took place.
Swatkins Group was very proud to donate a C5J for the winner’s trophy. Supporting a local team and charity was fantastic, and for such a wonderful cause, we are honoured to be involved with such a fantastic benefit Rugby match. We are so pleased the day and evening went well – Congratulations to all those who were involved, we can’t wait to see who wins next year!
